Goal

When our client first approached us, they only had an idea to launch an online headshop in California. However, they did not have a website, market research in hand, or anything else prepared.

The major advantage was that one of the co-founders possessed excellent industry knowledge, understanding every detail about the different types of products, including the small nuances of each and what people are seeking.

There were two main goals:

✅ Conduct detailed research to develop the mega menu before the website was ready, helping them identify which types of products to focus on and organize inventory management ahead of the website launch.

✅ Develop and execute a strong SEO strategy to rank top collection and product pages with high profit margins and generate a substantial amount of organic traffic.

Strategy

✔️ We spent over a month on category research and site navigation. Initially, we planned for 20-25 categories, but as they say, appetite comes with eating: after the research, we found more than 100 category page ideas, and most of them were approved. So, we started to double-check the keyword intent, conduct SERP analysis for each collection page, and write copy for each page (including FAQs).

Within three months, we were able to prepare everything necessary before the WordPress website went live.

✔️ Next, our team utilized a pre-launch SEO checklist for WordPress websites to ensure that the website’s technical elements, such as canonical tags, XML sitemap, robots.txt, and some WooCommerce-specific elements, were properly set up. In our opinion, there’s no need to mention that we handled all the general SEO tags, such as H1s and metadata.

✔️ The website started getting indexed day by day. However, to speed up the process, we submitted all the non-indexed pages for indexation on GSC. Within a month, we began to see 1-2 sales from organic traffic.

✔️ With this progress, we moved forward with more passion. Our team developed 20-30 niche-specific topic ideas to build topical relevance and earn organic backlinks in the future. We knew that in this industry, there aren’t many blogging opportunities, and it wouldn’t be wise to expect sales or conversions directly from blog content.

✔️ After 4-5 months, we slowly started building links. Since the website was new, it wasn’t advisable to build too many links per month, and we understood this. We secured 5-7 links in the first month, then gradually increased the numbers month by month.
Everyone familiar with the link-building game knows that it’s 99% impossible to get links from high-quality websites to grey niche sites such as loans, gambling, or cannabis. So, we aimed to meet the following minimum requirements:

✅ At least one year of traffic history
✅ No penalized websites
✅ No fake traffic
✅ USA-based traffic
✅ No spammy sites

It’s also worth mentioning that over the last 12 months, we continuously monitored key metrics such as user flow, keyword rankings, bounce rates, conversion rates, and other critical indicators.

Based on these findings, we also optimized the website’s speed, on-page elements, and technical aspects over time to ensure it remained smooth and healthy.
